Gazprom Raises Gas Supplies to Turkey After Iran Cut

(May 28, 2008)

OAO Gazprom, the world’s biggest natural-gas producer, increased pipeline supplies to Turkey by about 36 percent, following a disruption in flows from Iran.

Gazprom raised gas flows to Turkey to 30 million cubic meters a day, from 22 million cubic meters a day, Gazprom spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov said in a statement yesterday. Increased supply would come through the Blue Stream pipeline, the statement said.

Iran sees gas pipeline deal with India, Pakistan by mid-year

(May 28, 2008)

 

Iran’s ambassador to New Delhi said Tehran hopes to finalise a gas pipeline deal with India and Pakistan by mid-year, in an interview released on Wednesday. The 7.5-billion-dollar project which aims to transport natural gas from Iranian oilfields to Pakistan and India was discussed during a visit to India last month Iranian by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Iran, Turkey closing in on gas deal

(May 27, 2008)

 

Iran and Turkey are moving towards concluding an agreement on the development of phases 22 to 24 of Iran’s giant South Pars gas-field.

A delegation of directors of Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), which held talks with officials from Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company last week, is to announce its views on signing the deal on the $3-4 billion project.

Middle East in nuclear race to match Iran

(May 21, 2008)

 

Almost every country in the Middle East has announced nuclear energy plans in the space of less than a year, in response to Iran’s dramatic progress towards atomic power, it was reported yesterday.

 

Iran’s pursuit of uranium enrichment in defiance of UN security council resolutions has increased tensions with the US. Yesterday, Israel army radio reported that a senior US administration official told the Israeli government during last week’s presidential visit that George Bush and Dick Cheney still intended to mount military action against Iran.

Iran launches fresh crackdown on websites: report

(May 20, 2008)

 

Iranian authorities have blocked access to several websites and blogs of women’s rights advocates and journalists critical of the government, a press report said on Tuesday.

 

The move follows a new directive sent out by a committee tasked with identifying illegal websites to Internet service providers, the reformist Etemad Melli newspaper said without giving a source.

Tehran hands proposals to Russia, China on nuclear security - 2

(May 16, 2008)

 

Iran said on Friday it has submitted to the Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministries a package of proposals on nuclear non-proliferation and other international security issues.

 

A spokesman for the Iranian Supreme National Security Council said: "These countries have promised to closely study the package of proposals and to announce their opinion regarding our initiatives."

Iran has no plans to cut crude exports: official

(May 14, 2008)

 

Iran is exporting oil as usual and has no plans to cut crude exports, a senior oil official told Reuters on Wednesday, a day after the president was quoted as saying Tehran was considering a plan to cut output.

 

"There is no plan to cut exports and we keep our promises (to clients) ... and we export as usual," said Hojjatollah Ghanimifard, international affairs director at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

UPDATE 1-Total CEO sees short-term Iran South Pars problems

(May 12, 2008)

 

French oil major Total (TOTF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it was still interested in Iran’s huge South Pars gas field but added it could be hard to reach an agreement in the short term.

 

Total Chief Executive Christophe De Margerie, speaking in Doha on Monday, told reporters: "In the short term, it will be difficult to find a win-win situation. We have told them we are interested in the long term."

India MRPL agrees to sell diesel to Iran - source

(May 9, 2008)

 

Indian refiner Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Ltd has confirmed supply of around 250,000 tonnes of diesel to Iran at a premium of about $4.40 to Middle East Gulf quotes, an industry source said on Friday. The deal to sell one 30,000-tonne cargo each month during May-December had been confirmed via a fax message to Neftiran Intertrade Company, fully owned by National Iranian Oil Co (NIOC), said the source.

Oil majors to exit Iran’s LNG project

Reports have emerged that Shell and Repsol-YPF are devising exit strategies from Iran’s $10 billion Persian LNG scheme at the offshore South Pars field. The decision has been put down to the poor Iranian political climate, with the two majors hoping to leave without damaging ties with the country’s beleaguered energy industry.

Iran supply problems add to fears of oil hitting $200 a barrel

(May 7, 2008)

The Iranian petroleum industry needs foreign investment and, despite the country’s vast oil and gas reserves, is struggling to maintain production levels, according to industry experts.

Although Iran is Opec’s second-largest exporter, production at the country’s leading oil and gasfields is believed to be falling by as much as 10 per cent annually because of a lack of investment and expertise.
