This is MEC’s latest Iran Scenarios Newsletter on the major developments concerning news in Iran.

A pipeline project between Iran-Pakistan-India is being planed this month. The proposed 7.5 billion pipeline would initially carry 2,120 million cubic feet of gas a day. Furthermore the Croatian state-owned oil and gas company, INA started exploration in Northwestern Iran on June 21st.

Pakistan keen to see Iran pipeline deal through

Pakistan is keen to see the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) oil pipeline project through and awaits India’s readiness to engage with Pakistan in this regard, according to Pakistan’s Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Syed Naveed Qamar.

Iran, Serbia boost transportation co-op

(June 30, 2008)

 

Iran and Serbia signed an MOU on goods and passenger transportation here on Sunday.

 

The MOU was signed between Mohammad Bokharai, Iranian deputy minister of roads and transport and Miodrag Jocic, Serbian deputy minister of transport and communications.

Iran-Gambia to Boost Marine Cooperation

(June 24, 2008)

 

Iran and Gambia on Monday opened the first meeting on shipping and port cooperation in Tehran. The Ports and Shipping Company of Iran director in charge of transit and tariffs, Gholam Reza Sasani, held talks with the Gambian permanent secretary at the Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure, Bakary M. Houma on issues of mutual interests.

Iran Seeking Supertanker to Store More Crude Oil, Brokers Say

Iran, OPEC’s second-largest oil producer, is seeking to hire a supertanker to store crude oil in the Persian Gulf for as long as 60 days, three shipbrokers said.

Croatia starts oil exploration in Iran

(June 23, 2008)

 

The Croatian state-owned oil and gas company, INA, has reportedly begun exploration activities in an oil block in northwestern Iran.

 

"The Croatian firm started work in the Moghan-2 Block on June 21," the National Iranian Oil Company’s director for exploration affairs, Hossein Roshandel, told ISNA Monday.

Energy: Nabucco Chief Eyes Iranian, Russian Gas Despite U.S. Objections

EU states back new sanctions on Iran

(June 23, 2008)

European Union states agreed on Monday to impose new sanctions against Iran, including an asset freeze on its biggest bank, over its refusal to meet demands to curb its nuclear programme.

But the EU said the door remained open to possible talks over an international package of incentives delivered to Tehran earlier this month by EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana for Iran to suspend uranium enrichment.

Iran to Spend $109mln on Petrochemical Zone

(June 19, 2008)

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s special representatives in oil affairs approved a plan to allocate 982,321 million rials (some 109mln dollars) for developing Bandar Imam Petrochemical Zone infrastructures by the Ab-Niroo Petrochemical Company.

Mehr cited the official website of Iran’s Presidential Office saying, the plan aims to benefit from optimum domestic technical, engineering, and executive potentials in implementing projects in the water and energy sector.

The plan will be completed by the end of the Iranian calendar year 1388 (March 20, 2010).

The plan was communicated to the Ministry of Petroleum on June 17 by the first vice president.

OVL consortium proposes to invest $3 billion in Iran gas block

(June 13, 2008)

 

ONGC Videsh Ltd and its partners Indian Oil Corp and Oil India Ltd have proposed to invest about 3 billion dollars in bringing to production 12.8 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas reserves they have found in Farsi gas block in Iran in the next 3-4 years.

Iran Boosts Manufacture of Hybrid Car Engines

(June 11, 2008)

 

Iran is to scale down production of gasoline-powered vehicles and increase its manufacture of cars with dual-fuel and natural gas engines. "Sixty percent of passenger cars produced this year will use natural gas as fuel or will be dual-fuel, and the remaining 40 percent will run on regular gasoline," read a statement released by the Cabinet of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, press tv reported.

Iran to Invest in LNG Market

(June 5, 2008)

 

Iran is planning to pump in excess of $120bln into projects to produce 80 mln tons of LNG within 12 years and become the world’s largest LNG exporter, an Iranian gas official said.

Iran does not currently have LNG industries, although it controls the world’s second largest natural gas resources after Russia, estimated at 27.5 trln cubic meters - more than 15% of the total global gas reserves.
